West Sumatra, Siberut, Traditional Dance

One of the last truly indigenous cultures left on
the planet, the Mentawai people have their own language, culture and religion. They are skilled craftsmen, boat builders, excellent hunters, but they are not good farmers. The only traditional
diet is sago, which they extract from sago palm trees. Men wear loin cloth made from the skin of bread fruit tree. Women wear traditional skirts from palm leaves. Both males and females are characterised by the unique tattoos they etch on one another as well as their handmade
decorative neclaces.
