Mount Slamet mountain is one of the objectives of the expedition of climbers, both from the local area and other areas. This mountain has Dipterokarp forest hill, forest Upper Dipterokarp, Montane forest, and forest or forest Ericaceous mountain.

Mount Slamet located on the border Purbalingga, Banjarnegara, Banyumas, and Brebes. With the geographical position of 7 -ª 14.30 ‘S and 109 -ª 12.30’ E and altitude of 3432m above sea level, making the highest volcano in Central Java. This mountain has four craters on the peak. Mountain in the north of Purwokerto and west of town Purbalingga also has several hot springs.

Mount Name

In a book entitled “Three Old Sundanese Poems”, published by KITLV Leiden in 2006, J. Noorduyn mention that Slamet mountain’s name is relatively new is the arrival of Islam to Java. By referring to ancient texts Sundanese Bujangga Manik, J Noorduyn wrote that the old name of this mountain is Mount Agung.
