The Inspiring Javanese Dance Drama : Mataya Langen Swara – Wahyu Cakraningrat

The splendor of Indonesian culture also lies in its traditional theatrical art performances. Combining music, dance, and song these art performances are more than mere entertainment as they also contain moral values and wisdom of the past to guide into the future. Such are the elements featured in Mataya Langen Swara.

Mataya Langen Swara is a Javanese traditional dance drama which features sung dialogues. The uniqueness of Mataya Langen Swara lies in the ability of the actors to relate the story and express  characters through aesthetical movements, dance, and song.

Presenting the tale of Wahyu Cakraningrat, the Mataya Langen Swara performed at the Jakarta Art Center (Gedung Kesenian Jakarta) on 1 November 2011m the drama  captivated the audience with its fine choreography, and mesmerizing songs. Wahyu Cakraningrat tells the story about a revelation (wahyu) from God that was fought over by several knights on earth, since it was believed that it would bring  great power to control the world to whoever holds it.
