Faunis canens, Common Faun, Amathusiidae


Native  South East Asia    Wingspan   5-6 cm

The Common Faun is a forest denizen and usually lurks close to the ground in well-shaded areas. When disturbed it springs up from underfoot but does not fly far. The underside of the butterfly is deep brown with dark transverse lines and a series of white spots on both wings. The upperside is orange-brown and unmarked.
The larva is pale green with short white hairs.
