Site Description
A promontory of Pulau Bakung, Tanjung Bakung consists of large areas of mudflat, primary mangrove forest, and several small lakes. The extremity of this promontory is accreting very rapidly. Tidal mudflats comprise very unripe clay sediment more than 1.5 m deep in places. Local villagers report breeding colonies of storks and egrets at the mangrove lakes.
Site Location
Pulau Burung is situated off the east coast of Sumatra, on the eastern side of Pulau Basu, east of Tembilahan.
