Site Description
The area includes the southern and western slopes of the isolated Meratus mountain range. It contains numerous gorges and waterfalls. It encloses the water catchment area of the Riam Kanan Dam, an important irrigation and hydroelectric power project. The reservoir is fed by the Riam Kanan river, a tributary of the major Barito river. Flat areas cover about 40% and hilly and montane areas about 60% of the total area. The vegetation consists of brush-vegetation with Alang Alang (Imperata cylindrica), swamp forests and mountain rain forest.
Site Location
Pleihari Martapura is located on Kabupaten Banjar, 50 km east of Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan. To access the reserve catch a bus from the km6 6 bus station in Banjarmasin to Martapura. From there you have to charter some kind of transportation to the reserve.
