Prinia atrogularis, Hill Prinia, Perenjak Gunung

The Hill Prinia is distributed from the eastern Himalayas to south and east China and southwards through Indochina and the MalaPrinia-atrogularisysian Peninsula to Sumatra.
Hill Prinia, Lingmethang Road, Mongar, Bhutan, April 2008 – click for larger image It is found on grassy hill and mountain sides where there is some cover from scrub or shrubs. It feeds on insects and larvae close to or on the ground and is very active twitching its very long tail up and down frequently.

It has plumage which varies both between sub-species and between breeding and non-breeding periods.

Upperparts are olive-grey to brown while below is whitish to brown with varying amounts of black streaking or scales. The bill is a dark horn in colour and slightly decurved while the legs are flesh-coloured.
