Melanocharis nigra, Black Berrypecker, Burung buah Hitam

DescriptMelanocharis nigra, Black Berrypecker, Burungbuah Hitamion: Medium-sized (25 cm), dark, thick-billed partridge. Sexes differ. Male is almost entirely black; female rich brown with bold black scalloping on wing coverts, and pale throat and breast.
Iris – dark brown; bill – black in male, brown in female; feet – pale blue.

Voice: Double whistle similar to Crested Partridge.

Distribution and status: Not uncommon in the lowlands of S and W Borneo, north to at least Mulu; not recorded E Borneo.

Habits: A quiet bird of forest floor in primary forests and peat swamp forests.
